Condolences From Madame C. J. Walker

November, 1915

To Margaret Murray Washington and James Washington

"Accept my most sincere regrets of the untimely passing away of Dr. Booker T. Washington, the greatest man America ever knew. We as a race feel that in him we have lost the truest friend the race ever had. I mourn with you in your great loss.

Yours in deepest sorrow,

Madam C. J. Walker

Madam Walker was born into a Louisiana slave family shortly after the Civil War. She became an orphan at age 7. But that didn't stop her. She became an entrepreneur with an empire built on developing hair products for black women. She was years and years head of Mary Kay.
